Cayley Wilson

Insightful Perspective from NRCHA Judge & Trainer:

A cherished contributor to “Cowboy Evolution,” brings a wealth of experience and heartfelt passion to the world of cowhorse training. Originally from Western Canada,

Cayley’s journey in horsemanship began in 1999 as an NRCHA and NCHA competitor and judge. His dedication and hard work have earned him recognition in both national and international competitions.

Mentored by notable figures like Les Timmons and Boyd Rice, Cayley attributes his success to his supportive team, family, and clients. At Cayley Wilson Performance Horses, he emphasizes a strong two-year-old program, starting colts early and building a solid foundation for their future. His philosophy, “Training horses is not our job, it’s what we love to do,” reflects his genuine love for the craft.

Cayley’s approach resonates with teens and aspiring trainers, highlighting the importance of dedication, open-mindedness, and continual growth. Known for his compassionate and patient demeanour, Cayley believes in nurturing both horses and people, creating an environment where everyone can thrive. His insights and experiences provide a rich perspective on the equestrian lifestyle, making him an invaluable part of the documentary.

Mike Robertson

Mentor and Farrier:

Cody’s uncle and mentor, have been a guiding force in Cody’s life, especially during his formative years.

Growing up with a single mom, Cody found a supportive presence in Mike, who became a father figure and role model. As a skilled farrier in Wellington County, Mike introduced Cody to horseshoeing, mentoring him from a young age. By age 10, Cody was already proficient in shoeing horses, thanks to Mike’s patient guidance and encouragement.

Mike’s deep connection with the equestrian world, including his achievements in barrel racing and his family’s very successful Quarter Horse racing operation, highlights his expertise. Having faced his own challenges in traditional schooling, Mike is empathetic to Cody’s journey and understands the importance of finding and nurturing one’s passion.

His philosophy, “Hard work, honesty, and a love for horses,” reflects his genuine approach to life and work.

Known for his compassionate and patient demeanour, Mike believes in nurturing both horses and people, creating an environment where everyone can thrive. His support and mentorship have been pivotal in Cody’s journey, making Mike an essential participant in the “Cowboy Evolution” documentary.

His insights and experiences provide a rich perspective on the equestrian lifestyle and the importance of mentorship.

Bryn Robertson

The Horseman’s Legacy:

The 83-year-old patriarch of Hillerin Farm in Hillsburgh, Ontario, is a key figure in Cowboy Evolution. With over 50 years of marriage to his wife Carol, Bryn has built a legacy in the Quarter Horse racing industry, earning titles like CQHA Canadian Trainer and Breeder of the Year.

They bred, owned, and trained, 3-time AQHA Canadian Horse of the Year.

Bryn’s journey began when he immigrated from Wales as a young boy. Despite only completing school up to grade 9, he built a highly successful career in Agricultural Sales.  Bryn and his wife Carol enjoyed many years of successful showing and training alongside their three children. They were also the founders of several grassroots organizations for Western shows, and their passion later evolved into training Quarter Horse racehorses.

His dedication continues to see him in the barn by 6 am, working alongside his son, daughter-in-law and wife. Bryn’s advice to his grandson Cody, who is following in his footsteps, is simple: “Keep your nose down and work hard.”

Kathleen May Burnett

A Trailblazer in Education and Advocacy:

Kathleen Burnett embodies resilience, compassion, and dedication. As a mother, teacher, and advocate in both Canada and the US, she has empowered countless individuals and championed their rights within the education system.

Her journey, marked by personal challenges and triumphs, ignited her passion for advocacy.

A steadfast supporter of Cody and his family, Kathleen has been instrumental in advocating for Cody’s needs. Her deep connection to horses and experience with equine therapy highlight her multifaceted approach to growth and healing.

Currently pursuing a law degree, she continues to lead initiatives for inclusivity and equity in education as the Executive Director for the United Education Advocacy Counsel.

Kimberly Robertson Sabila

A Pillar of Strength and Advocacy::

Cody’s mom is a remarkable single parent who raised three children: Cody, Bailey, and Autumn. Her journey with horses began in her youth, excelling in Western performance and later joining her family in Barrel Racing and Racing Quarter Horses. Horses have always been a source of strength for their family.

With over 20 years of experience in Agriculture Finance, she has been a driving force in equine community programs. Her unwavering advocacy for Cody, under the most challenging circumstances, extends to all her children. She believes in finding inner passions and talents, learning from mistakes, and always moving forward.

Having shown horses across the US, Canada, and even Italy, she brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to the documentary. This passion project aims to benefit not just Cody, but other families and children facing struggles. Sometimes, going against the grain is necessary to do what’s best for our kids.
